No matter how long we go back in time, astrology has always been with us. An ancient cosmic art, it helped man understand his role in the Universe. In the last 2000 years, reincarnation was cast out of mainstream religion and thought, which is reflected in traditional astrology. Man had one life, with hell or heaven as his reward, and one natal chart to reveal his fate, which was predetermined.
Karmic astrology is based on philosophies which claim that the soul is a cosmic multi-dimensional entity, who incarnates in order to learn and evolve. The soul itself does not feel pain and does not have emotions. Entering the Earth plane, which is a three dimensional reality, the soul wants to gain experiences. The physical body, which is equipped with nerve endings, is the best tool for that because it is capable of transferring both pain and pleasure. The soul plans the details of the next incarnation in the in-between-life after evaluating the previous one, thus unpleasant, difficult, even painful lessons become part of the human experience. They provide the necessary steps for evolution.
Karmic astrology can show the cosmic potentials of the incarnating soul: his chosen life task, his brought-in skills, his options unfolding in time. The natal chart is the reflection of the incarnating soul, and represents both what has been learned from past lives and what has been planned in the in-between life stage. It contains relevant information on previous incarnations, personal traits and capabilities, fears and phobias, and future potentials.
We are going to look briefly at the philosophical premises of karmic astrology, then look at various natal charts to see the practice of how to uncover and understand karma from the horoscope.
Basic points to consider in a karmic reading:
- The Moon Phase at birth
- Element imbalance
- The Ascendant: the Mask of the soul
- The Moon: the spiritual essence
- Saturn: restrictions, burdens, boundaries, responsibilities.
- Chiron: karmic wounds.
- The Sun: the soul’s main purpose in this incarnation
- The Nodal axis: knowledge and purpose
- Prenatal eclipses: the soul’s inner paths
- Eclipses on important degrees: highlights of previous incarnations
- The Vortex: fatal choices
- Karmic houses: where we meet our karma
- Karmic aspects and configurations: how we meet our karma
