MAJOR PLANETARY EVENTS
2009

At a first glance, 2009 may look relatively uneventful, but those who are familiar with transcendental and karmic delineations will be able to note a few interesting placements.

Let’s begin with what most traditional astrologers take into consideration when giving advice. From a mundane point of view, it is always a “difficult” time when Mercury, the planet responsible for communication, turns retrograde. Important letters and emails get lost, lots of misunderstandings occur. It is worth avoiding these days or weeks in case you want to sign an important document, enter into a contract, or have to pass a difficult exam because you may not succeed at all, or only after great hardship. In case you have no choice in the matter and need to sign anything important, at least make sure you read the small print so that you won’t be in for a nasty surprise later on.

Retrograde Mercury periods to watch:

January 11 - February 1.

May 7 - 30.

September 7 - 28.
* * *
December 27 - January 14, 2010.

This year we are going to have five New and Full Moons that are considered to be “Super Moons”. This term, which was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle, describes New and Full Moons that occur when the Moon is 90% or greater of its closest approach to the Earth (called the Lunar Perigee). In such cases, New Moons have even greater initiatory properties while Full Moons ensure even more profound fulfillments since they occur closer to us. If a Super Moon coincides with an eclipse, extraordinary energy patterns may emerge, which you should definitely try to utilize. Look at your natal placements and see if any of them touches anything important in your chart.

Super Moons:

January 11 - Full Moon (Capricorn 21°02)
* * *
June 22 - New Moon (Cancer 1°30)
* * *
July 22 - New Moon (Cancer 29°27) + Solar Eclipse
* * *
August 20 - New Moon (Leo 27° 32)
* * *
December 31 - Full Moon (Capricorn 10°15)

This year will bring some outer planet transits that are worth watching, too. Outer planets take a long time to form transits and they stay within orb for relatively extended periods; they generally bring important changes in the world and in individual destinies as well.

Pluto left Sagittarius for good on November 27 and entered Capricorn just a couple of hours before the New Moon. The Lord of the Underworld already made this change of signs between March and May, but then it retrograded back to Sagittarius). Pluto will profoundly and deeply transform existing structures in Capricorn. We could see banks going down; the international financial and business world crumbled before our very eyes. If we are wise, we will draw the necessary conclusions and won’t ever let global corporations grow fat on our sweat and life force. In any case, whenever Pluto has entered a cardinal sign in recorded history, nothing remained the same.

Uranus will still be in Pisces and Neptune will still be in Aquarius in 2009. One of the results of this mutual reception has been the increased number of suicide bombings by religious fanatics all over the world since 2003, although the energy pattern could be used for something very different: understanding hidden dimensions, deciphering the messages of the Universe, or anything else that needs clairvoyance, inspiration, and flashes of enlightenment.

Chiron will also be transiting Aquarius in 2009, and Jupiter will be forming a stellium with the Chiron-Neptune conjunction that is staying within orb all year. In May, June, July and December the three planets will be in a very tight conjunction bringing healing, unconditional love, profound insight and hope. Chiron has been transiting Aquarius since December 2005, and this placement may bring healing to very old karmic wounds that originated in Atlantis. We can still utilize this impact throughout 2009.

Saturn, on the other hand, will be leaving Virgo, and it will enter Libra on October 29, 2009. The sign change will bring either crystallization or difficulties in entering agreements and partnerships. It is important to think it over carefully what you are or are not willing to do.

According to one of the most important axioms of transcendental astrology, difficult placements will happen on some level or other, while the beneficial ones will manifest only when we do something for them. Stressful transits cannot be avoided or eradicated; we need to raise our consciousness in order that they cause the least aggravation and pain. This is exactly what the Universe is asking of you: pay attention to necessary and potential changes; give clear and intelligent answers to emerging problems; don’t sweep them under the carpet.
